To use (使用 shiyō) a spell, ARTS, PIECE, or ability is to pay its cost and carry out its effect.
Spells are used from your hand, ARTS and PIECE cards are used from your LRIG deck, and abilities are used from cards on your field (unless specified otherwise). Cards and abilities may have a use timing that governs when they can be used. When a card is used, it is moved to the Check Zone, where its effects are resolved. Before a spell's effects are resolved, however, the opponent may use a card with the Use Timing [Spell Cut-In] in response.
Additionally, players may be instructed to use cards through the effects of certain cards like Mind Mines, Holy Grand Slam, and Code Piruluk APEX. These effects may allow players use cards from a zone other than the regular zones a card can be used from, use cards outside of their regular timing, and may even allow players to use their opponent's cards. Whenever a player uses a card through an effect, they must still follow its limiting conditions and pay its cost, unless specified otherwise.
Trigger abilities, such as Life Bursts and and
abilities, are considered to be "activated," not "used." Activating the Life Burst of a spell card is not considered to be using the spell.
Even if a spell or PIECE's effects are countered, it is still considered to be used, so effects that trigger whenever a card is used such as that of W - Inecellar, Code: Art still activate.
